Narrative:

During takeoff during automated V1 call; aircraft veered right and a loud explosion was heard. I noticed/felt a complete and sudden loss of power on right engine. I announced 'reject' and completed the reject procedure. All checklists were completed as crash fire rescue equipment crews arrived. Engine suffered a contained failure on the hp 1 section. No fire was observed. No evacuate/evacuation necessary. After an exterior examination by crash fire rescue equipment crew; I taxied off the runway; having stopped with 2000 ft remaining. Later towed to the gate. This was my second high speed reject in 29 yrs as an airline pilot. My flight and cabin crew remained calm and acted professionally. While this engine failure occurred at V1; my hand was still on the throttles; so my decision to reject rather than go flying (to me) was obvious.
