Narrative:
On approximately 340 degree heading at 3000 ft approaching asalt for the VOR 13L approach at jfk; we were instructed to intercept the VOR course. Just prior to asalt we were instructed 'due to decreasing WX; cross asalt at 2000 ft; cri at 1000 ft; cleared the VOR 13L approach.' having briefed the approach to initiate a descent at cri of 700 ft at 700 FPM to final approach altitude at dmyhl; I initiated my descent at cri and was through 800 ft in a flash. I realized we were low and initiated a climb as ATC informed us of our low altitude. We climbed back to 800 ft and continued to an uneventful landing.

Title: AN MD88 APCHING THE JFK VOR 13L WAS GIVEN LAST MINUTE APCH ALT CHANGES FOR DECREASING WX CAUSING ACFT TO GO BELOW DESCENT PATH AND RECEIVING AN ALERT.
Narrative: ON APPROX 340 DEG HDG AT 3000 FT APCHING ASALT FOR THE VOR 13L APCH AT JFK; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO INTERCEPT THE VOR COURSE. JUST PRIOR TO ASALT WE WERE INSTRUCTED 'DUE TO DECREASING WX; CROSS ASALT AT 2000 FT; CRI AT 1000 FT; CLRED THE VOR 13L APCH.' HAVING BRIEFED THE APCH TO INITIATE A DSCNT AT CRI OF 700 FT AT 700 FPM TO FINAL APCH ALT AT DMYHL; I INITIATED MY DSCNT AT CRI AND WAS THROUGH 800 FT IN A FLASH. I REALIZED WE WERE LOW AND INITIATED A CLB AS ATC INFORMED US OF OUR LOW ALT. WE CLBED BACK TO 800 FT AND CONTINUED TO AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
