Narrative:
I was the captain of this flight. I was in the right seat; PNF. The copilot was in the left seat. Our clearance was to fly the TEB5 departure from runway 24; lanna transition. The departure stated runway heading to 1500 ft MSL; right turn to 280 degrees until 4.5 DME from teb; then climb to 2000 ft MSL; thence. I selected 2000 ft into the altitude preselect and briefed the departure. I expected the departure to be hand flown. On departure shortly after takeoff; the autoplt was engaged. We reached 1500 ft MSL; turned to 280 degrees and continued to climb to 2000 ft MSL. We were handed off to departure who clarified we were to be at 1500 ft MSL for this segment of the SID. We maintained 2000 ft MSL as we were then reaching the proper point at which we were to climb to 2000 ft MSL. No conflicts with other aircraft.

Title: LR45 CREW CLBS TO 2000 FT ON THE TEB5 DEP; WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE 4.5 DME FIX.
Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT OF THIS FLT. I WAS IN THE RIGHT SEAT; PNF. THE COPLT WAS IN THE LEFT SEAT. OUR CLRNC WAS TO FLY THE TEB5 DEP FROM RWY 24; LANNA TRANSITION. THE DEP STATED RWY HDG TO 1500 FT MSL; RIGHT TURN TO 280 DEGS UNTIL 4.5 DME FROM TEB; THEN CLB TO 2000 FT MSL; THENCE. I SELECTED 2000 FT INTO THE ALT PRESELECT AND BRIEFED THE DEP. I EXPECTED THE DEP TO BE HAND FLOWN. ON DEP SHORTLY AFTER TKOF; THE AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED. WE REACHED 1500 FT MSL; TURNED TO 280 DEGS AND CONTINUED TO CLB TO 2000 FT MSL. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO DEP WHO CLARIFIED WE WERE TO BE AT 1500 FT MSL FOR THIS SEGMENT OF THE SID. WE MAINTAINED 2000 FT MSL AS WE WERE THEN REACHING THE PROPER POINT AT WHICH WE WERE TO CLB TO 2000 FT MSL. NO CONFLICTS WITH OTHER ACFT.
