Narrative:

We were dispatched with pack #1 inoperative. After takeoff we had an ECAM pack #2 fault. It had an overheat. We cleared the ECAM and stayed at 5000 ft. We then called maintenance and dispatch and reported the failure and asked the history on pack #2. Pack #2 had a history of faults. We discussed this with dispatch and maintenance and decided to return to ord since there was WX along the route combined with night flying and the fact we were going over the rockies. We went through the checklist for an overweight landing and checked the runway distance required for landing. We touched down less than 200 FPM. It was an uneventful landing. We switched airplanes and continued to ZZZ.
