Narrative:
During takeoff acceleration roll; and following a normal preflight check; the aircraft suddenly nosed up and left the ground. The PIC immediately pulled power; causing the aircraft to impact hard on its l-hand main gear. This deflected the aircraft to the right; causing it to leave the runway and roll along the grass; clipping several runway lights. Control was quickly regained and the aircraft taxied back to the hangar. No injuries occurred; but some sheet metal damage occurred to the aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN EXPERIMENTAL ACFT PILOT REPORTS THAT DURING TKOF ROLL THE ACFT PITCHED UP UNCOMMANDED. HE PULLED POWER FORCING THE ACFT TO THE GND AND CAUSING DAMAGE.
Narrative: DURING TKOF ACCELERATION ROLL; AND FOLLOWING A NORMAL PREFLT CHK; THE ACFT SUDDENLY NOSED UP AND LEFT THE GND. THE PIC IMMEDIATELY PULLED PWR; CAUSING THE ACFT TO IMPACT HARD ON ITS L-HAND MAIN GEAR. THIS DEFLECTED THE ACFT TO THE R; CAUSING IT TO LEAVE THE RWY AND ROLL ALONG THE GRASS; CLIPPING SEVERAL RWY LIGHTS. CTL WAS QUICKLY REGAINED AND THE ACFT TAXIED BACK TO THE HANGAR. NO INJURIES OCCURRED; BUT SOME SHEET METAL DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE ACFT.
