Narrative:
Filed civet runway 25L -- approximately 10 NM from civet; ATC changed us to civet runway 24R. FMC locked up and started re-syncing with other FMC when change was attempted. Informed approach we had navigation computer failure and requested heading and altitude. Heading issued to intercept localizer runway 24R. Landing uneventful.

Title: B757 FLT CREW REPORTS FMC LOCK UP AFTER ATTEMPTED RWY CHANGE DURING THE CIVET 5 INTO LAX. FLT CREW REQUESTS VECTOR TO THE NEW RWY AND LANDS UNEVENTFULLY.
Narrative: FILED CIVET RWY 25L -- APPROX 10 NM FROM CIVET; ATC CHANGED US TO CIVET RWY 24R. FMC LOCKED UP AND STARTED RE-SYNCING WITH OTHER FMC WHEN CHANGE WAS ATTEMPTED. INFORMED APCH WE HAD NAVIGATION COMPUTER FAILURE AND REQUESTED HDG AND ALT. HDG ISSUED TO INTERCEPT LOCALIZER RWY 24R. LANDING UNEVENTFUL.
