Narrative:
I was on short final to runway 22; cleared for a touch and go by tower and another aircraft waiting on runway 27 was cleared to take off. These runways intersect right past the threshold for runway 22 and about 1000 ft from the threshold of runway 27. On final there is no visual to runway 27/9 except the intersection because of a tree line. I immediately went to full power and did a go around because I didn't know where the other plane was on runway 27. The tower did not acknowledge anything or ask why I did a go around. I then continued upwind and went around for a full stop landing without incident. To prevent this from happening again the tower should have either withheld clearance to the airplane on runway 27 or given clearance to the aircraft on runway 27 after ensuring that we would be no factor (past the intersection when they started their roll).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C172 PILOT LANDING CDW RWY 22 WENT AROUND WHEN UNABLE TO SEE TFC LANDING RWY 27 BECAUSE OF TREES.
Narrative: I WAS ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 22; CLRED FOR A TOUCH AND GO BY TWR AND ANOTHER ACFT WAITING ON RWY 27 WAS CLRED TO TAKE OFF. THESE RWYS INTERSECT RIGHT PAST THE THRESHOLD FOR RWY 22 AND ABOUT 1000 FT FROM THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 27. ON FINAL THERE IS NO VISUAL TO RWY 27/9 EXCEPT THE INTXN BECAUSE OF A TREE LINE. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO FULL PWR AND DID A GAR BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THE OTHER PLANE WAS ON RWY 27. THE TWR DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANYTHING OR ASK WHY I DID A GAR. I THEN CONTINUED UPWIND AND WENT AROUND FOR A FULL STOP LNDG WITHOUT INCIDENT. TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN THE TWR SHOULD HAVE EITHER WITHHELD CLRNC TO THE AIRPLANE ON RWY 27 OR GIVEN CLRNC TO THE ACFT ON RWY 27 AFTER ENSURING THAT WE WOULD BE NO FACTOR (PAST THE INTXN WHEN THEY STARTED THEIR ROLL).
