Narrative:
A mechanical failure of the oil system in the #2 engine occurred in-flight and the specific cause of the failure is currently under investigation. The event was a rapid loss of oil quantity from the #2 engine. The captain and I idented the problem while inside ZZZ airspace at 7000 ft. The captain was the PNF and accomplished the appropriate checklists. An emergency was declared to ATC and a safe single engine landing was accomplished on runway 28 at ZZZ airport. Because of the lapse in time needed for the checklist and securing the aircraft for landing we did not notify the flight attendant of our situation before landing. No damages or injuries occurred; so we proceeded to the gate to deplane the passenger. The loss of oil was noticed by the decreasing oil pressure indication on the EICAS display followed by a warning message on the EICAS. Once the event was idented we accomplished the appropriate checklists which led us to shut down the #2 engine. An emergency was declared and a single engine landing was accomplished.
