Narrative:
At 3000 ft MSL; being vectored by ZZZ approach for a visual approach to runway 26L; left engine spooled down to idle thrust and quit. Approach cleared us for the visual; first officer was flying; I replied negative; just lost the left engine; declaring an emergency; and requested vector to run checklist. I performed emergency checklist; unable to restart engine. We notified lead flight attendant we had a non-life threatening emergency. We notified ATC and operations and asked them to pass on to dispatch. Cleared to land with fire trucks standing by. Taxied off runway; no damage noted by trucks; taxied to gate. Shut down and deplaned passenger normally thru jetway. Postflt walkaround showed no outward signs of engine damage or leakage. Left aircraft in hands of contract maintenance.
