Narrative:

On descent to ZZZ nose gear down green light was on with red nose gear light with gear up. Talked to maintenance and he agreed it was an indication problem and that he was confident the gear would extend; but we should of course verify this with the nose gear viewer. I knew a captain that was riding in the cabin and had the flight attendant have him come up to the cockpit to help us look through the viewer on approach and also help us if we had any further problems. After gear extension he was having problems positioning himself to see into the view port and momentarily opened the cockpit door to verify that the arrows were lined up. Arrows were lined up and cockpit indications were normal. Landed normally.
