Narrative:

After being topped off; aircraft was flown for 0.9 hours. After additional 1.1 hours of flight; engine began to lose power. Precautionary landing was made in a field. No damage to aircraft. No injuries to pilot or passenger. Excessive fuel consumption not normal. Engine and carburetor 22.5 hours since major overhaul. Cause yet to be determined. The reporter stated that his conversation with the mechanic investigating the engine discovered one of two carburetor float bowls stuck opened. The reporter believes a service difficulty report had previously been issued about this problem.

Title: A C172 DEPARTED WITH FULL WING TANKS BUT DUE TO FUEL STARVATION LOST ENG POWER AFTER 2.0 HRS OF FLT. THE ACFT HAD FLOWN 22.5 HRS SINCE AN ENG/CARB OVERHAUL.

Narrative: AFTER BEING TOPPED OFF; ACFT WAS FLOWN FOR 0.9 HRS. AFTER ADDITIONAL 1.1 HRS OF FLT; ENG BEGAN TO LOSE PWR. PRECAUTIONARY LNDG WAS MADE IN A FIELD. NO DAMAGE TO ACFT. NO INJURIES TO PLT OR PAX. EXCESSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION NOT NORMAL. ENG AND CARB 22.5 HRS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL. CAUSE YET TO BE DETERMINED. THE REPORTER STATED THAT HIS CONVERSATION WITH THE MECHANIC INVESTIGATING THE ENG DISCOVERED ONE OF TWO CARBURETOR FLOAT BOWLS STUCK OPENED. THE REPORTER BELIEVES A SERVICE DIFFICULTY REPORT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ISSUED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.
