Narrative:
After flying to ZZZ we did 2 touch and goes. We then proceeded north to do a diversion to ZZZ2. On our climb; I noticed oil running from the top of the left engine nacelle. I did a precautionary shutdown of the left engine; and returned to ZZZ. No assistance was needed from ZZZ tower; and priority was not given to my knowledge.

Title: PA44 PLT OBSERVED OIL LEAKING FROM THE LEFT ENG. THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN AND THE PLT EXECUTED A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG.
Narrative: AFTER FLYING TO ZZZ WE DID 2 TOUCH AND GOES. WE THEN PROCEEDED N TO DO A DIVERSION TO ZZZ2. ON OUR CLB; I NOTICED OIL RUNNING FROM THE TOP OF THE L ENG NACELLE. I DID A PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN OF THE L ENG; AND RETURNED TO ZZZ. NO ASSISTANCE WAS NEEDED FROM ZZZ TWR; AND PRIORITY WAS NOT GIVEN TO MY KNOWLEDGE.
