Narrative:
Transitioning from the GPS-C to a change by approach to the localizer DME-east approach was warned I was either 500 ft below published altitude for the segment or I was on or 500 ft above terrain. I did not reset altitude alerter to new altitude because of the approach change and little time. There was little time due to close proximity south of ZZZ. Chain of events: approach told me I was too low after vectoring me 270 degrees to intercept the localizer. Once on the localizer I was warned and I climbed back to approximately 11200 ft. Human factors: WX below ATIS and change in expected approach in the last few mins of the flight.
