Narrative:
After pushback and deice from the gate we noticed a B747 cargo plane starting to taxi in our direction. Realizing there was probably not enough room for the B747 to taxi between us and the other cargo aircraft to our right; we called ground to alert them. I do not recall if ground control called them to stop right away or not. After watching the aircraft continue and it was apparent they were not going to stop. We called over the radio for the B747 to stop. They stopped about a foot from what I thought was going to be wing to wing contact. We told ground to get someone out to make sure no contact was going to occur. After waiting for someone to come out; the B747 marshaller instructed it to taxi forward. Which they did without permission from ground. The wingtips passed within 6 inches and no damage occurred. The captain called for the deice truck to come and check the wing to make sure there was no damage. Even though it is a free movement area; ground control should not have given the B747 taxi instructions that would take them so close to another aircraft.
