Narrative:
Improper preflight planning led to insufficient fuel to complete the flight. Loss of engine power occurred requiring a declaration of emergency and a vector to nearest airfield. Landed aircraft at the airfield without incident. Future flts to be planned with greater care for fuel requirements.

Title: FUEL STARVATION RESULTS IN ENGINE FAILURE AND DIVERSION TO NEARBY ARPT FOR A SAFE LNDG BY C172.
Narrative: IMPROPER PREFLT PLANNING LED TO INSUFFICIENT FUEL TO COMPLETE THE FLT. LOSS OF ENG PWR OCCURRED REQUIRING A DECLARATION OF EMER AND A VECTOR TO NEAREST AIRFIELD. LANDED ACFT AT THE AIRFIELD WITHOUT INCIDENT. FUTURE FLTS TO BE PLANNED WITH GREATER CARE FOR FUEL REQUIREMENTS.
