Narrative:
Where this took place is depicted on navigation chart for bos hot spot area HS3. We were on taxiway K behind an airbus holding short of runway 4L. There was a twin cessna holding short of runway 4L on taxiway east. The airbus was cleared to cross and then the twin was cleared to cross and fall in behind the airbus now on taxiway M. We were then cleared to cross 'without delay and follow the twin cessna. Twin cessna on 2 mi final.' once we started across; I saw there was no way to clear runway 4L because of the crowd on taxiway M. When we were cleared to cross we were also instructed to change to frequency 132.22. That frequency was as crowded as the txwys! When we finally got a chance to advise we were not clear of the runway; the twin cessna on final to runway 4L was going around. We eventually were able to clear the runway.

Title: CRJ700 FLT CREW DESCRIBED GND CONFLICT WHEN ATC ISSUED RWY CROSSING CLRNC AND FLT CREW WAS UNABLE TO CLR RWY BECAUSE OF TXWY TFC; RESULTING IN GAR.
Narrative: WHERE THIS TOOK PLACE IS DEPICTED ON NAV CHART FOR BOS HOT SPOT AREA HS3. WE WERE ON TXWY K BEHIND AN AIRBUS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4L. THERE WAS A TWIN CESSNA HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4L ON TXWY E. THE AIRBUS WAS CLRED TO CROSS AND THEN THE TWIN WAS CLRED TO CROSS AND FALL IN BEHIND THE AIRBUS NOW ON TXWY M. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO CROSS 'WITHOUT DELAY AND FOLLOW THE TWIN CESSNA. TWIN CESSNA ON 2 MI FINAL.' ONCE WE STARTED ACROSS; I SAW THERE WAS NO WAY TO CLR RWY 4L BECAUSE OF THE CROWD ON TXWY M. WHEN WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS WE WERE ALSO INSTRUCTED TO CHANGE TO FREQ 132.22. THAT FREQ WAS AS CROWDED AS THE TXWYS! WHEN WE FINALLY GOT A CHANCE TO ADVISE WE WERE NOT CLR OF THE RWY; THE TWIN CESSNA ON FINAL TO RWY 4L WAS GOING AROUND. WE EVENTUALLY WERE ABLE TO CLR THE RWY.
