Narrative:
The inbound crew advised me of a flaps failure that had occurred that same day. I noted the 2 write-ups in the log and called maintenance control for clarification of my understanding. We departed for ZZZZ after some considerable delay with a ground stop. It was the first officer's leg. Arrival ATIS at ZZZ advised winds 310 degrees at 27 KTS gusting to 39 KTS; 10 SM visibility; FEW048 M08/M24 altimeter 30.02. We were cleared for a visual. Outside the FAF at approximately 2000 ft and 200 KIAS; the first officer called for flaps 8 degrees. I selected this with the flaps lever; but we got the 'flaps fail' caution message with no apparent movement of the flaps as per EICAS and flight control synoptic page. I ordered a go around and advised the tower. We received vectors to troubleshoot. The QRH procedure was complied with and I spoke to dispatch who ran the numbers. The flight attendant and passenger were advised. I did not declare an emergency. Approach control asked for fuel and number of souls on board; and if we wanted crash fire rescue equipment to stand by. I opted to take this as a precaution. A xfer of aircraft control to myself was made and the approach; landing and taxi to the gate completed without incident. For 2 flaps fail events on an aircraft in the same day certainly merits investigation.

Title: CRJ200 FLT CREW REPORT FLAP FAIL MSG DURING APPROACH; AND AFTER COMPLYING WITH QRH PROCEDURES A NO FLAP LANDING IS ACCOMPLISHED.
Narrative: THE INBOUND CREW ADVISED ME OF A FLAPS FAILURE THAT HAD OCCURRED THAT SAME DAY. I NOTED THE 2 WRITE-UPS IN THE LOG AND CALLED MAINT CTL FOR CLARIFICATION OF MY UNDERSTANDING. WE DEPARTED FOR ZZZZ AFTER SOME CONSIDERABLE DELAY WITH A GND STOP. IT WAS THE FO'S LEG. ARR ATIS AT ZZZ ADVISED WINDS 310 DEGS AT 27 KTS GUSTING TO 39 KTS; 10 SM VISIBILITY; FEW048 M08/M24 ALTIMETER 30.02. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL. OUTSIDE THE FAF AT APPROX 2000 FT AND 200 KIAS; THE FO CALLED FOR FLAPS 8 DEGS. I SELECTED THIS WITH THE FLAPS LEVER; BUT WE GOT THE 'FLAPS FAIL' CAUTION MESSAGE WITH NO APPARENT MOVEMENT OF THE FLAPS AS PER EICAS AND FLT CTL SYNOPTIC PAGE. I ORDERED A GAR AND ADVISED THE TWR. WE RECEIVED VECTORS TO TROUBLESHOOT. THE QRH PROC WAS COMPLIED WITH AND I SPOKE TO DISPATCH WHO RAN THE NUMBERS. THE FLT ATTENDANT AND PAX WERE ADVISED. I DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER. APCH CTL ASKED FOR FUEL AND NUMBER OF SOULS ON BOARD; AND IF WE WANTED CFR TO STAND BY. I OPTED TO TAKE THIS AS A PRECAUTION. A XFER OF ACFT CTL TO MYSELF WAS MADE AND THE APCH; LNDG AND TAXI TO THE GATE COMPLETED WITHOUT INCIDENT. FOR 2 FLAPS FAIL EVENTS ON AN ACFT IN THE SAME DAY CERTAINLY MERITS INVESTIGATION.
