Narrative:
Entered holding near ZZZ and after getting a revised efct from center it became apparent we would not be able to continue on to our destination. After discussing our options with dispatch via ACARS; it was decided that we go ahead and divert to our alternate. We landed without incident; refueled and departed shortly afterwards. Did not anticipate ZZZ1 flow control; aircraft emergency and afternoon thunderstorm.
