Narrative:
Performed rudder free-play check (engineering document) on aircraft XXX. All 3 rudders; pcs's failed free-play check. Generated north/right XXX to cover remove and replace of positive control area's. I missed step 34 of engineering document thinking by generating north/right's I had complied with step. I later realized that I did not comply with the whole step. In the future; I will take my time reading the paperwork and make sure I comply with all steps.

Title: A B757-200 MECHANIC REPORTS ON GENERATING MAINT WRITE-UPS TO REPLACE THREE RUDDER POWER CONTROL UNITS THAT FAILED FREE PLAY CHECK. MECHANIC DID NOT COMPLY WITH THE WHOLE STEP IN THE ENGINEERING ORDER.
Narrative: PERFORMED RUDDER FREE-PLAY CHK (ENGINEERING DOCUMENT) ON ACFT XXX. ALL 3 RUDDERS; PCS'S FAILED FREE-PLAY CHK. GENERATED N/R XXX TO COVER REMOVE AND REPLACE OF PCA'S.
