Narrative:
Our previous flight ended with an emergency divert to ZZZ. Arrived at ZZZ1 hotel at XA45. Received phone call from chief pilot at XH07 asking about deadheading me to finish the remainder of a trip. Per discussion with crew planning and duty manager day before after emergency; first officer and I understood that we could be taken off trip with pay if we wanted. With our late arrival in ZZZ1 and stress from emergency along with trying first day of schedule due to maintenance issues from mechanic accosting and accusing us of job actions for refusing plane for oxygen leak; we elected to be removed from trip. The call from crew planning was to correct the apparent misunderstanding of what he said we could do by being removed from trip with pay. I subsequently agreed to fly the remainder of trip. Deadhead to ZZZ2; ZZZ4 turn; ZZZ2-ZZZ3 scheduled duty day at 12 hours 40 mins. After lengthy delay in ZZZ2 due to mechanical; we departed 5 hours late. Company ACARS'ed us asking what we wanted to do when we arrived in ZZZ4. We elected to get off trip vice continue by waiving to exceed 14 hour limit; knowing I was already very tired; fatigued from ordeal from previous day and night. Side notes: crew planning offered me to use vacation; sick leave or fatigue to get off trip. Not wanting to use vacation and sick leave; and not lose pay; I decided to fly trip knowing I would probably get tired earlier in trip due to 6 hours of interrupted sleep. When pilots have gone through an emergency; they should be removed from flying with pay; no options to the pilots. I decided to fly after the incident because I didn't want to lose pay -- a safety decision that shouldn't be influenced by pay. With my subsequent long duty day; it turned out to be a dangerous situation that had a good outcome.

Title: B737-300 CAPTAIN REPORTS EFFORTS BY AIRLINE TO HAVE HIM TO FLY REMAINDER OF FLT ASSIGNMENT FOLLOWING A DIVERT DUE TO AN UNSPECIFIED AIRBORNE EMERGENCY.
Narrative: OUR PREVIOUS FLT ENDED WITH AN EMER DIVERT TO ZZZ. ARRIVED AT ZZZ1 HOTEL AT XA45. RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM CHIEF PLT AT XH07 ASKING ABOUT DEADHEADING ME TO FINISH THE REMAINDER OF A TRIP. PER DISCUSSION WITH CREW PLANNING AND DUTY MGR DAY BEFORE AFTER EMER; FO AND I UNDERSTOOD THAT WE COULD BE TAKEN OFF TRIP WITH PAY IF WE WANTED. WITH OUR LATE ARR IN ZZZ1 AND STRESS FROM EMER ALONG WITH TRYING FIRST DAY OF SCHEDULE DUE TO MAINT ISSUES FROM MECH ACCOSTING AND ACCUSING US OF JOB ACTIONS FOR REFUSING PLANE FOR OXYGEN LEAK; WE ELECTED TO BE REMOVED FROM TRIP. THE CALL FROM CREW PLANNING WAS TO CORRECT THE APPARENT MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HE SAID WE COULD DO BY BEING REMOVED FROM TRIP WITH PAY. I SUBSEQUENTLY AGREED TO FLY THE REMAINDER OF TRIP. DEADHEAD TO ZZZ2; ZZZ4 TURN; ZZZ2-ZZZ3 SCHEDULED DUTY DAY AT 12 HRS 40 MINS. AFTER LENGTHY DELAY IN ZZZ2 DUE TO MECHANICAL; WE DEPARTED 5 HRS LATE. COMPANY ACARS'ED US ASKING WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WHEN WE ARRIVED IN ZZZ4. WE ELECTED TO GET OFF TRIP VICE CONTINUE BY WAIVING TO EXCEED 14 HR LIMIT; KNOWING I WAS ALREADY VERY TIRED; FATIGUED FROM ORDEAL FROM PREVIOUS DAY AND NIGHT. SIDE NOTES: CREW PLANNING OFFERED ME TO USE VACATION; SICK LEAVE OR FATIGUE TO GET OFF TRIP. NOT WANTING TO USE VACATION AND SICK LEAVE; AND NOT LOSE PAY; I DECIDED TO FLY TRIP KNOWING I WOULD PROBABLY GET TIRED EARLIER IN TRIP DUE TO 6 HRS OF INTERRUPTED SLEEP. WHEN PLTS HAVE GONE THROUGH AN EMER; THEY SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM FLYING WITH PAY; NO OPTIONS TO THE PLTS.
