Narrative:
We were cleared for the ILS runway 22L at jfk at 2000 ft. We tuned and idented the ILS. Because of the low angle of intercept; I had the arc mode up to ensure the localizer intercept. The winds were 260 degrees at 30 KTS at 2000 ft; 500 ft overcast 1/2 mi visibility; rain; br. We were tracking inbound on the ILS when hs ILS raw data disappeared then reappeared. All other data was ok. Then all modes of the pfd flight mode annunciator were flashing on both pfd's. All other information: map; raw data; altitude; was ok. We broke out at 500 ft pointing toward runway 22R and initiated a go around. The tower saw us and called for a go around as well. We recycled all of the equipment and retuned and verified the identify and landed with no problems on the second approach. We wrote it up in the maintenance log.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A300 ILS BECAME INTERMITTENT WHILE ON APCH; RESULTING IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE PARALLEL RWY. A GAR WAS EXECUTED.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 22L AT JFK AT 2000 FT. WE TUNED AND IDENTED THE ILS. BECAUSE OF THE LOW ANGLE OF INTERCEPT; I HAD THE ARC MODE UP TO ENSURE THE LOC INTERCEPT. THE WINDS WERE 260 DEGS AT 30 KTS AT 2000 FT; 500 FT OVCST 1/2 MI VISIBILITY; RAIN; BR. WE WERE TRACKING INBOUND ON THE ILS WHEN HS ILS RAW DATA DISAPPEARED THEN REAPPEARED. ALL OTHER DATA WAS OK. THEN ALL MODES OF THE PFD FLT MODE ANNUNCIATOR WERE FLASHING ON BOTH PFD'S. ALL OTHER INFO: MAP; RAW DATA; ALT; WAS OK. WE BROKE OUT AT 500 FT POINTING TOWARD RWY 22R AND INITIATED A GAR. THE TWR SAW US AND CALLED FOR A GAR AS WELL. WE RECYCLED ALL OF THE EQUIP AND RETUNED AND VERIFIED THE IDENT AND LANDED WITH NO PROBS ON THE SECOND APCH. WE WROTE IT UP IN THE MAINT LOG.
