Narrative:
Approaching gate as we turned onto the lead-in line first officer noted 2 'bread' trucks and a baggage cart straddling the red 'remain clear' lines on aircraft right. When he verbalized his concern we stopped the jet. Marshaller acted puzzled so I turned on right runway turnoff lights which illuminated the offending vehicles. Lead marshaller went up adjacent jetway to get driver of 1 truck. First truck relocated but still 2 other threats. Right wing walker never perceived the threat and still thought we could proceed. Vehicles were finally relocated and we continued to the gate uneventfully. Additional training for this marshalling crew. I don't think this kind of problem will go away until the company solves the much bigger problem of employing lowest bidder contractors to accomplish these critical tasks. Marshalling.
