Narrative:
We were assigned the teb 5 off runway 24; the SID was briefed as follows: runway heading 1500 ft; right turn 280; maintain 1500 ft until passing the 4.5 DME teb VOR then climb and maintain 2000 ft. I was the assigned PIC and occupying the right seat; the PF is type rated in the giv but low in actual giv experience; this was a dead head leg to home base and I elected to give him the leg in order to gain experience. During the initial climb the PF called for heading 280 at 800 ft; I reminded him that we must maintain runway heading until leveling at 1500 ft. I believe his situational awareness had been lost. When we arrived at 1500 ft he failed to lower the nose. I recognized we were not leveling and took control of the aircraft and returned it to 1500 ft while simultaneously verbalizing my actions. The aircraft achieved an altitude of 1720 ft before I was able to arrest the climb; the controller reminded us (in a friendly tone) maintain 1500 ft.

Title: CAPTAIN OF GIV; ACTING AS PNF FOR FO PF OCCUPYING LEFT SEAT OUT OF TEB; MUST ASSUME CONTROL WHEN PF FAILS TO STOP CLIMB AT 1500 FT MSL PER THE TEB DEP RESTRICTIONS.
Narrative: WE WERE ASSIGNED THE TEB 5 OFF RWY 24; THE SID WAS BRIEFED AS FOLLOWS: RUNWAY HEADING 1500 FT; RIGHT TURN 280; MAINTAIN 1500 FT UNTIL PASSING THE 4.5 DME TEB VOR THEN CLIMB AND MAINTAIN 2000 FT. I RECOGNIZED WE WERE NOT LEVELING AND TOOK CONTROL OF THE ACFT AND RETURNED IT TO 1500 FT WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY VERBALIZING MY ACTIONS. THE AIRCRAFT ACHIEVED AN ALTITUDE OF 1720 FT BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO ARREST THE CLIMB; THE CONTROLLER REMINDED US (IN A FRIENDLY TONE) MAINTAIN 1500 FT.
