Narrative:
After pushback we had trouble with FMS lock-up. Everything was programmed and speeds and takeoff data were displayed. The captain conferred with maintenance control and attempted rebooting the system with little success. They informed us that the FMS would work after departure when it updated its position. We proceeded to the runway and departed. On climb out it appeared that the FMS was operating normally. Moments later it froze up again. We returned to the airport for a visual approach without incident.
