Narrative:
Failed to identify the pre departure clearance error has been described in the WX packet for the last few weeks. To buf was planned via the standard route. SID to jeres.J220.buf.. Buf pre departure clearance amended clearance read: SID to jeres.J220.vallo. FMC route was then inputted as amended but went direct buf instead of J220 after vallo intersection which was the standard route. Center gave heading after vallo to re-intercept J220 after vallo instead of cutting the dogleg direct buf. I did notice the amendment but did not realize that vallo was on J220 and accepted first officer's interpretation of clearance. The WX packet had the correct interpretation but I failed to connect the dots to our amended clearance. Need to use maps as a backup to check clearance. As filed route was in effect; although it appeared to be amended for ARTCC host computer input. Trust but verify.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR FLT CREW MISUNDERSTANDS AMENDED PDC AND ENTERS WRONG ROUTE IN FMC.
Narrative: FAILED TO IDENT THE PDC ERROR HAS BEEN DESCRIBED IN THE WX PACKET FOR THE LAST FEW WKS. TO BUF WAS PLANNED VIA THE STANDARD RTE. SID TO JERES.J220.BUF.. BUF PDC AMENDED CLRNC READ: SID TO JERES.J220.VALLO. FMC RTE WAS THEN INPUTTED AS AMENDED BUT WENT DIRECT BUF INSTEAD OF J220 AFTER VALLO INTXN WHICH WAS THE STANDARD RTE. CTR GAVE HDG AFTER VALLO TO RE-INTERCEPT J220 AFTER VALLO INSTEAD OF CUTTING THE DOGLEG DIRECT BUF. I DID NOTICE THE AMENDMENT BUT DID NOT REALIZE THAT VALLO WAS ON J220 AND ACCEPTED FO'S INTERP OF CLRNC. THE WX PACKET HAD THE CORRECT INTERP BUT I FAILED TO CONNECT THE DOTS TO OUR AMENDED CLRNC. NEED TO USE MAPS AS A BACKUP TO CHK CLRNC. AS FILED RTE WAS IN EFFECT; ALTHOUGH IT APPEARED TO BE AMENDED FOR ARTCC HOST COMPUTER INPUT. TRUST BUT VERIFY.
