Narrative:
On descent into atlanta we were on the erlin arrival when ATC cleared us to herko intersection; then the herko arrival for runway 28. The first officer programmed the FMS for direct to the herko intersection on the herko arrival. We noticed that the FMS was still set up for runway 26R. ATC told us to turn right direct to fogog intersection and rejoin the arrival for runway 28. After rejoining the arrival the runway correction was made in the FMS. Changing arrs and runways caused the FMS to change the course because runway 26R is on the north side of the airport and runway 28 is on the south side. I will always make sure that I rechk the runway section when there is an arrival change in the FMS to prevent this from happening.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RNAV ARRIVAL INTO ATL WAS CHANGED FOR A CRJ200 FLT CREW. WHILE THE ARRIVAL WAS PROGRAMMED INTO THE FMS; THE RWY WAS NOT CHANGED. THIS NECESSITATED CLRNC TO JOIN THE REMAINDER OF THE ARRIVAL FOR THE PROPER RWY.
Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO ATLANTA WE WERE ON THE ERLIN ARR WHEN ATC CLRED US TO HERKO INTXN; THEN THE HERKO ARR FOR RWY 28. THE FO PROGRAMMED THE FMS FOR DIRECT TO THE HERKO INTXN ON THE HERKO ARR. WE NOTICED THAT THE FMS WAS STILL SET UP FOR RWY 26R. ATC TOLD US TO TURN R DIRECT TO FOGOG INTXN AND REJOIN THE ARR FOR RWY 28. AFTER REJOINING THE ARR THE RWY CORRECTION WAS MADE IN THE FMS. CHANGING ARRS AND RWYS CAUSED THE FMS TO CHANGE THE COURSE BECAUSE RWY 26R IS ON THE N SIDE OF THE ARPT AND RWY 28 IS ON THE S SIDE. I WILL ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT I RECHK THE RWY SECTION WHEN THERE IS AN ARR CHANGE IN THE FMS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.
