Narrative:
Programming error occurred on the flight plan portion of FMC. In programming the routing; the J104 portion of flight plan was dropped. This was discovered by ATC when we were reported west of course. We later discovered that although J104 was indeed entered; it never got executed on the route page. As a result; the SID transition became linked to the STAR transition; ie; gbn to tnp. The route page was crosschecked against release and clearance; however; the legs page was not. This may have eliminated the error. A verification of the legs page may have prevented this.
