Narrative:
Upon arrival at ZZZ; we were informed by ground personnel that the tail stand was still attached to the aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 785999: before start checklist was complete; first officer was waiting for passenger count and cargo weights. Aircraft equipped with GPS and I was explaining the different functions to the first officer (who just recently completed IOE). The #2 engine was started; the passenger count came in but we were still waiting on cargo; so I continued discussion of the GPS. The cargo weights came in; we completed the paperwork and started #1. When we came to the tail stand portion of the after start checklist; I couldn't remember if I saw the tail stand or not. I gave the signal for tail stand to the ground crew; he returned with a parking 'T' with the wands; I flashed the taxi light for taxi; and he marshalled me out. Upon arrival at destination; the ground crew noticed the tail stand was still attached as I parked the aircraft. We inspected the aircraft; found no visible damage. I wrote it up in the aml and contacted maintenance.
