Narrative:
Captain was PF. I was PNF; accomplishing flight related paperwork. I heard the distinct click of the autoplt disconnecting and looked up to observe the autoplt disconnect light illuminated. I then woke the captain to inform him that the autoplt had disconnected. He awoke startled and regained control of the aircraft without deviation from altitude or course. Flight was completed without further incident. Captain of the flight frequently falls asleep involuntarily; and appears to have difficulty maintaining consciousness for longer than 15 mins during cruise flight.
