Narrative:
I was asleep on my break. Smoke DR5 rest EICAS; master caution. After fans automatic shutdown; EICAS message cleared. Relief pilots accomplished smoke DR5 irregular procedures; advised flight attendants. Purser and 5 other flight attendants inspected rest area; entire cabin; galleys; and lavatories. No signs of smoke or fire noted. Reset fans using fan reset at DR5 rest area. Lower recirculation fans resumed operation. Within 15 seconds; EICAS message returned. Concurrently; first officer noticed odor. Fans automatic shutdown again. Relief pilots woke me up at this point. Conferred with maintenance. Per maintenance; turned off both upper and lower recirculation fans and recycled circuit breaker F4 to restore smoke detector capability. Flew rest of flight with recirculation fans off. No further EICAS messages or indications of smoke/fire observed. Landed normally at destination.
