Narrative:
Prior to taxi run for takeoff; 'B' flight attendant reported electrical smell in aft galley with a flickering area light. Aroma was reported in the last 6 rows of aircraft by passenger. No cockpit indications or alarms. Fire department called prior to calling maintenance control. Contract maintenance -- inspected aft galley area; including lights; coffee makers; switches and packs. Due to crew report of aft galley light flickering and then going out; prior to electrical smell; MEL'ed aft galley light assembly under sp #1B; cap and stowed electrical connector from light ballast for precautionary reasons. Had to cap and stow ballast because to comply with sp #2 (pull and collar circuit breaker) would have affected other system that feed off that breaker. Problem did not get ok from engineering to cap and stow connector from ballast under sp #3.
