Narrative:
I was IFR flight plan; talking with approach. I was en route ZZZ1. Approach called the airport '12 O'clock; 5 mi.' 'do you wish to cancel IFR?' I could see the airport in front of me. I called airport in sight. I canceled IFR and landed! It was the wrong airport! It was not ZZZ1 but ZZZ. The runway confign similar -- winds favored a west landing -- I landed on runway xx. Also; during landing; after I went VFR I lost radio. Electrical failed when I turned on fuel pump. The pump shorted and made avionics relay 'motorboat.' 'noise-fuse-norad.' now I am on the ground; no landing clearance; at the wrong airport! I called the tower; explained; approach sent me; maybe to the wrong airport. Lost radio no way to get feedback. I left the airplane to be repaired (new fuel pump). Did not know that I was at wrong airport till on ground. No radio increased workload; no time to verify exact runway. No time to look.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PA23-235 PILOT LANDED NORDO AT AN ARPT NEAR HIS DESTINATION AFTER HE MISTOOK IT FOR HIS DESTINATION FOLLOWING TRACON'S ARPT ADVISORY. PRIOR TO LNDG HIS ACFT'S RADIO FAILED WHEN THE FUEL PUMP WAS TURNED ON.
Narrative: I WAS IFR FLT PLAN; TALKING WITH APCH. I WAS ENRTE ZZZ1. APCH CALLED THE ARPT '12 O'CLOCK; 5 MI.' 'DO YOU WISH TO CANCEL IFR?' I COULD SEE THE ARPT IN FRONT OF ME. I CALLED ARPT IN SIGHT. I CANCELED IFR AND LANDED! IT WAS THE WRONG ARPT! IT WAS NOT ZZZ1 BUT ZZZ. THE RWY CONFIGN SIMILAR -- WINDS FAVORED A W LNDG -- I LANDED ON RWY XX. ALSO; DURING LNDG; AFTER I WENT VFR I LOST RADIO. ELECTRICAL FAILED WHEN I TURNED ON FUEL PUMP. THE PUMP SHORTED AND MADE AVIONICS RELAY 'MOTORBOAT.' 'NOISE-FUSE-NORAD.' NOW I AM ON THE GND; NO LNDG CLRNC; AT THE WRONG ARPT! I CALLED THE TWR; EXPLAINED; APCH SENT ME; MAYBE TO THE WRONG ARPT. LOST RADIO NO WAY TO GET FEEDBACK. I LEFT THE AIRPLANE TO BE REPAIRED (NEW FUEL PUMP). DID NOT KNOW THAT I WAS AT WRONG ARPT TILL ON GND. NO RADIO INCREASED WORKLOAD; NO TIME TO VERIFY EXACT RWY. NO TIME TO LOOK.
