Narrative:

Our arrival and shutdown at the gate were normal except for a slight delay for the operations agent to position the jetway. We deplaned all passenger after the short delay. Upon entering the jetway to remove my bags from the aircraft; I was met by a mechanic asking about the condition of the aircraft. I informed him the aircraft had no mechanical discrepancies. He informed me that I was to consider the aircraft released to him and I was free to leave. I made 1 more visual check of the cabin to ensure all customers had deplaned and released the aircraft to the mechanic. Supplemental information from acn 789031: the captain parked the aircraft at the gate. I completed the logbook; etc; and exited the aircraft. I met maintenance on the jetway. I was asked by maintenance if there were any problems with the aircraft. I said that as far as I knew; the aircraft was good. Maintenance said that he would take the aircraft as is. I told him that the captain would be off the aircraft shortly. The APU was running and powering the busses. The captain later exited the aircraft; we shook hands; and I departed for the pilot lounge. He followed shortly after as we met in the elevator to the lounge. Upon reaching the employee bus stop; the captain's cell phone rang and he was informed that an escape slide had been inadvertently deployed. He was on the phone for some time. I phoned the chief pilot and made him aware of the event. I asked the captain if there was a need for us to return to the aircraft. He stated that maintenance did not need us and that a slide was being sent from another city to repair the aircraft in time for the morning departure. The flight crew could have checked the slides. The flight attendants could have checked each other's slides. Maintenance could have checked the slides. The person who activated the slide could have checked it prior to activating it.
