Narrative:
There were heavy thunderstorms in the vicinity of zzzzz intersection which is the normal changeover point between ZZZ and ZZZ1 ctrs. West of zzzzz intersection; we asked ZZZ if we could deviate north of zzzzz intersection to avoid the thunderstorms; and the controller told us that he had no restrs and to contact ZZZ1. We contacted ZZZ1 and the controller stated that he was not going to do ZZZ center's job for them while we were in ZZZ's airspace. We maintained the route for as long as we could and then used emergency authority/authorized to deviate north of the WX for the safety of the passenger and crew. We contacted ZZZ1 who chastised us for being 8 mi north of zzzzz intersection and demanded to know if ZZZ center authority/authorized the deviation. We were cleared to deviate north of the WX and proceed direct VOR when able.
