Narrative:
We had just gone through 7500 ft and were cleared up to 14000 ft and told to contact ZTL when the aircraft ess yellow message displayed. We completed the QRH and the bus would not connect to the alternate source -- bus 2. It would connect then disconnect; then connect; then disconnect. We spoke to company; declared an emergency; and returned to ZZZ.
