Narrative:
In flight had an indication of loss of coolant; on other indications other than full pegged hot main coolant temperature; auxiliary coolant temperature normal; coolant pressure normal; elected to declare an emergency for safety and handling with ZZZ tower as it was the closest airport. Controller gave just the right amount of information and made it a non-event. The owners' mechanic was summoned; determined it was a false indication; coolant level normal; aircraft flown back to ZZZ1.

Title: PLT OF ACFT WITH LIQUID COOLED ENGINE HAD LOSS OF COOLANT QUANTITY AND A PEGGED MAIN COOLANT TEMP GAUGE; ELECTED TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY AND LAND. SUBSEQUENT MAINTENANCE DISCOVERY DETERMINED IT WAS AN INDICATION ERROR.
