Narrative:

Aircraft X was climbing out of FL290 to FL360 moving west then turning south. Aircraft Y was heading east at FL350. As aircraft X completed his turn; conflict alert went off. Aircraft X was at FL344. When conflict alert went off I only had 31 seconds and separation was lost. Issued turns to aircraft X and descent. No answer. I issued turns and descent. Again aircraft X responded. Also turned aircraft Y; but was too late to save error. I believe the frequency could have also been a factor. It was not our normal frequency and I was having to repeat myself twice for every clearance.
