Narrative:
En route to ZZZ there were numerous thunderstorm cells. We were given direct to zzzzz intersection which was in the middle of a cell with tops above FL300. We did not accept and required further east of course where the WX was clear as far as could be seen. Center tried to coordinate with the other sector we needed to deviate into and they would not let us. 7700 was squawked (per center's request) and we deviated as necessary.

Narrative: ENRTE TO ZZZ THERE WERE NUMEROUS TSTM CELLS. WE WERE GIVEN DIRECT TO ZZZZZ INTXN WHICH WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CELL WITH TOPS ABOVE FL300. WE DID NOT ACCEPT AND REQUIRED FURTHER E OF COURSE WHERE THE WX WAS CLR AS FAR AS COULD BE SEEN. CTR TRIED TO COORDINATE WITH THE OTHER SECTOR WE NEEDED TO DEVIATE INTO AND THEY WOULD NOT LET US. 7700 WAS SQUAWKED (PER CTR'S REQUEST) AND WE DEVIATED AS NECESSARY.
