Narrative:
At approximately XA48 EST; we entered the jfk ramp at taxiway xx with a right turn from taxiway a. Another immediate right turn from taxiway yy onto the ramp was accomplished to proceed toward gate X. Following the marshaller's direction; we then turned left to align with the lead-in line to gate X noting both left and right wing walkers indicating the all clear signal. Following the marshaller's direction; we proceeded slowly as he signaled to come ahead. The come ahead signal was followed by the approaching stopping point signal and then abruptly by the stop signal. Shortly thereafter; the flight attendant at 2L called the flight deck to inform us that the left engine appeared to be in contact with ground equipment.
