Narrative:
ZNY advised cleared direct vinse but was somewhat garbled so I asked for repeat and she phonetically spelled the name but because of poor sound quality I only heard india november sierra. So I replied cleared direct wints? She did not answer. Here is a very dangerous problem both vinse and wints sound alike! They are on the same airway! If you are off airway on a vector you could lose separation with other aircraft! One of these intxns should be renamed curtt!
