Narrative:

We found a B767 main tire assembly that the 8130 parts tag had the wrong stock number and manufacturer part number on it. What we found is that we had a B767-200 wheel and tire assembly but the 8130 parts tag was labeled as a tire for a B767-300. These wheels are not interchangeable between the -200 and -300 767's. I hope this is a one time event but put in an ASRS report get the information out. Tire shop to check correct wheel assembly part number and 8130 tag have the same information on them. Supplemental information from acn 796540: I was working on wheel a B767-200 wheel and a B767-300 wheel with different part numbers; but the same serial number. This was one of the busiest days of the season and somehow the 8130-3 tags got switched on these 2 wheels of the same serial number. Callback conversation with reporter acn 796540 revealed the following information: reporter stated the manufacturer serial number on the outboard side of the wheel half is used as an identifier on the FAA 8130 tags. Although the B767-200 and -300 wheel tire assembly look similar and have different manufacturer part numbers; the two tire assemblies actually had the same serial number. During the final paperwork closeout for the tire wheel buildup assembly; the 8130 tags were inadvertently placed on the wrong tire assembly. Neither tire was ever mounted on any aircraft. Reporter stated the B767-200 and -300 wheel tire assemblies are not interchangeable.

Title: A LEAD AND TWO MECHANICS REPORT ON A B767-200 AND -300 ACFT MAIN TIRE AND WHEEL HALF ASSEMBLIES WITH FAA 8130 TAGS SWITCHED. BOTH THE -200 AND -300 MANUFACTURER WHEEL HALF SERIAL NUMBERS WERE IDENTICAL.

Narrative: WE FOUND A B767 MAIN TIRE ASSEMBLY THAT THE 8130 PARTS TAG HAD THE WRONG STOCK NUMBER AND MANUFACTURER PART NUMBER ON IT. WHAT WE FOUND IS THAT WE HAD A B767-200 WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY BUT THE 8130 PARTS TAG WAS LABELED AS A TIRE FOR A B767-300. THESE WHEELS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE BTWN THE -200 AND -300 767'S. I HOPE THIS IS A ONE TIME EVENT BUT PUT IN AN ASRS RPT GET THE INFO OUT. TIRE SHOP TO CHK CORRECT WHEEL ASSEMBLY PART NUMBER AND 8130 TAG HAVE THE SAME INFO ON THEM. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 796540: I WAS WORKING ON WHEEL A B767-200 WHEEL AND A B767-300 WHEEL WITH DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS; BUT THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BUSIEST DAYS OF THE SEASON AND SOMEHOW THE 8130-3 TAGS GOT SWITCHED ON THESE 2 WHEELS OF THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 796540 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: REPORTER STATED THE MANUFACTURER SERIAL NUMBER ON THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE WHEEL HALF IS USED AS AN IDENTIFIER ON THE FAA 8130 TAGS. NEITHER TIRE WAS EVER MOUNTED ON ANY ACFT. REPORTER STATED THE B767-200 AND -300 WHEEL TIRE ASSEMBLIES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
