Narrative:

After putting gear handle down; left gear light did not illuminate green. The captain tested the lights; they illuminated. We then asked tower if we could fly down the runway for them to observe the gear. They said all gear appeared down. We declared an emergency; did the gear not down checklist; had the purser do a cabin advisory; did the alternate gear extension checklist; came around for an uneventful landing on runway 8R.
