Narrative:
Maintenance received a phone call and a facsimile pertaining to aircraft for check item to be complied with prior to further flight during the aircraft's visit to ZZZ (through-flight). I then proceeded to comply with the check item after the aircraft arrived; and followed the paperwork that was assigned to me. Upon completion of the checklist; I signed off the check item and the cover sheet; however; I inadvertently failed to make a logbook entry. I had assumed that the cover sheet and signed check item satisfied the required paperwork. I have since just learned that this check item requires a logbook entry if it is issued during a through-flight per the procedures manual. I have reviewed these procedures in an effort to avoid any future confusion. This report was filed immediately upon discovery. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated their normal procedure is to signoff the completion sheet for any work specifically called out to be performed. Whenever a logbook entry is also required; an additional sign off block is added; making note of the requirement for a logbook entry. That added maintenance note was not on their closeout sheet.

Title: MECHANIC IS INFORMED HE FAILED TO MAKE A LOGBOOK ENTRY AFTER COMPLETING A SPECIAL CHECK OF A GROUND SPOILER ROD END BOLT POSITION INSTALLATION ON A B737-300.
Narrative: MAINT RECEIVED A PHONE CALL AND A FAX PERTAINING TO ACFT FOR CHK ITEM TO BE COMPLIED WITH PRIOR TO FURTHER FLT DURING THE ACFT'S VISIT TO ZZZ (THROUGH-FLT). I THEN PROCEEDED TO COMPLY WITH THE CHK ITEM AFTER THE ACFT ARRIVED; AND FOLLOWED THE PAPERWORK THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO ME. UPON COMPLETION OF THE CHKLIST; I SIGNED OFF THE CHK ITEM AND THE COVER SHEET; HOWEVER; I INADVERTENTLY FAILED TO MAKE A LOGBOOK ENTRY. I HAD ASSUMED THAT THE COVER SHEET AND SIGNED CHK ITEM SATISFIED THE REQUIRED PAPERWORK. I HAVE SINCE JUST LEARNED THAT THIS CHK ITEM REQUIRES A LOGBOOK ENTRY IF IT IS ISSUED DURING A THROUGH-FLT PER THE PROCS MANUAL. I HAVE REVIEWED THESE PROCS IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID ANY FUTURE CONFUSION. THIS RPT WAS FILED IMMEDIATELY UPON DISCOVERY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: REPORTER STATED THEIR NORMAL PROCEDURE IS TO SIGNOFF THE COMPLETION SHEET FOR ANY WORK SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT TO BE PERFORMED. WHENEVER A LOGBOOK ENTRY IS ALSO REQUIRED; AN ADDITIONAL SIGN OFF BLOCK IS ADDED; MAKING NOTE OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR A LOGBOOK ENTRY. THAT ADDED MAINT NOTE WAS NOT ON THEIR CLOSEOUT SHEET.
