Narrative:
On climb out; captain was hand flying and reported feeling a rumbling through the flight controls. At FL300 the left generator drive EICAS light came on with the light in the overhead switch. Ran checklist and disconnected the generator drive. Large bump was felt at point of disconnect and rumbling feeling went away. Diverted to nearest suitable at that time which was ZZZ. Captain used emergency authority/authorized for slight overweight landing (1900 pounds) and declared an emergency with no assistance required. Uneventful landing and taxi in. Cabin and flight deck crew debriefed after deplaning.
