Narrative:
Engine vibration indicator showed 1.8 setting off master caution, with all other engine indications normal. Retarded the throttle (#2) to the point where vibration showed 0.2 with all normal indications. Called for checklist, vibration indicator immediately went up to 2.0 setting off master caution with tailgate temperature going up rapidly. Immediately retarded #2 throttle to idle, tgt continued going up, passing 850 degrees. Brought throttle to the fuel shutoff position. Tgt peaked out at 900 degrees then came down. Engine shutdown normally. Declared emergency, followed up with appropriate checklist and proceeded back to sna with no further mishap.
