Narrative:
Upon takeoff roll noticed red boxed FD and red horizontal strike through lower 'to' in FMA on upper left side of pilot's pfd. There was no warning or master caution chimes or messages on EICAS. Event occurred after depressing toga switches on thrust levers and beginning takeoff roll on runway 36R. Depressed toga switches again after identify of FD flag and red strike through 'to' on vertical pitch field of FMA. I tried the toga switch on my side first; then I tried depressing the first officer's toga pushbutton. This did not rectify the fault and I then aborted takeoff. The airspeed was at 60 KTS when I retarded the thrust levers. First officer notified tower we were rejecting the takeoff and taxied off runway. After clearing the runway; I set the parking brake and notified passenger and flight attendants. QRH was run for rejected takeoff and we evaled the fault. Maintenance was contacted and we eventually returned to the terminal. Upon arrival at gate; ground crew noticed external ground air door open. I wrote up also for the mechanics to inspect. The ground crew must properly close the external ground air door. Damage may have resulted or worse if we had taken off with that door open.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A CRJ200 FD AND PFD FMA HAD A RED BOX AND LINE THROUGH THEM AFTER TOGA WAS SELECTED FOR TKOF. PILOT REJECTED AND MAINT FOUND EXTERNAL AIR DOOR OPEN.
Narrative: UPON TKOF ROLL NOTICED RED BOXED FD AND RED HORIZ STRIKE THROUGH LOWER 'TO' IN FMA ON UPPER L SIDE OF PLT'S PFD. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR MASTER CAUTION CHIMES OR MESSAGES ON EICAS. EVENT OCCURRED AFTER DEPRESSING TOGA SWITCHES ON THRUST LEVERS AND BEGINNING TKOF ROLL ON RWY 36R. DEPRESSED TOGA SWITCHES AGAIN AFTER IDENT OF FD FLAG AND RED STRIKE THROUGH 'TO' ON VERT PITCH FIELD OF FMA. I TRIED THE TOGA SWITCH ON MY SIDE FIRST; THEN I TRIED DEPRESSING THE FO'S TOGA PUSHBUTTON. THIS DID NOT RECTIFY THE FAULT AND I THEN ABORTED TKOF. THE AIRSPD WAS AT 60 KTS WHEN I RETARDED THE THRUST LEVERS. FO NOTIFIED TWR WE WERE REJECTING THE TKOF AND TAXIED OFF RWY. AFTER CLRING THE RWY; I SET THE PARKING BRAKE AND NOTIFIED PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS. QRH WAS RUN FOR RTO AND WE EVALED THE FAULT. MAINT WAS CONTACTED AND WE EVENTUALLY RETURNED TO THE TERMINAL. UPON ARR AT GATE; GND CREW NOTICED EXTERNAL GND AIR DOOR OPEN. I WROTE UP ALSO FOR THE MECHS TO INSPECT. THE GND CREW MUST PROPERLY CLOSE THE EXTERNAL GND AIR DOOR. DAMAGE MAY HAVE RESULTED OR WORSE IF WE HAD TAKEN OFF WITH THAT DOOR OPEN.
