Narrative:

Late call for #2 engine oil leak. The flight crew requested maintenance run engine with passenger on board. Engine was leak checked and no leak was found. Per maintenance procedure; crew must be in one of the flight deck seats. When; at time of run; copilot was standing in flight deck; but left flight deck before maintenance started engine run; it was my understanding that the crew had to be in the general area -- not in the flight deck. Suggested resolution: require flight crew to run engines with passenger on board aircraft.
