Narrative:
During climb out from ZZZ at about 15000 ft; we received fuel imbal on EICAS. Fuel quantity in left tank indicated 0 pounds on both EICAS and mfd indication. Fuel totalizer indicated only the right tank quantity. After completing appropriate checklists; we determined returning to ZZZ was the safest course of action. We landed normally in ZZZ. Unknown fuel quantity system malfunction.

Title: EMB140 FO REPORTS LEFT TANK FUEL QUANTITY INDICATING ZERO PASSING 15000 FEET IN CLIMB. THIS TRIGGERS EICAS FUEL IMBALANCE AND FLT CREW ELECTS TO RETURN TO LAND.
Narrative: DURING CLBOUT FROM ZZZ AT ABOUT 15000 FT; WE RECEIVED FUEL IMBAL ON EICAS. FUEL QUANTITY IN L TANK INDICATED 0 LBS ON BOTH EICAS AND MFD INDICATION. FUEL TOTALIZER INDICATED ONLY THE R TANK QUANTITY. AFTER COMPLETING APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS; WE DETERMINED RETURNING TO ZZZ WAS THE SAFEST COURSE OF ACTION. WE LANDED NORMALLY IN ZZZ. UNKNOWN FUEL QUANTITY SYS MALFUNCTION.
