Narrative:
Inadvertently crossed runway 3-21 and unable ground control advisory due to being on tower frequency. On taxiout, 'clrd to runway 11L,' and we missed the sign designating taxiway 4. Cockpit workload with company close-out's weights, cg, etc, definitely a contributing factor. Another contributing factor was unfamiliarity with the tucson airport. We headed for the end of the extension of runway 11L and felt we were clrd to cross runway 3-21 because we were 'clrd to 11L.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CROSSED ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC. NO CONFLICT.
Narrative: INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 3-21 AND UNABLE GND CTL ADVISORY DUE TO BEING ON TWR FREQ. ON TAXIOUT, 'CLRD TO RWY 11L,' AND WE MISSED THE SIGN DESIGNATING TXWY 4. COCKPIT WORKLOAD WITH COMPANY CLOSE-OUT'S WTS, CG, ETC, DEFINITELY A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. ANOTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE TUCSON ARPT. WE HEADED FOR THE END OF THE EXTENSION OF RWY 11L AND FELT WE WERE CLRD TO CROSS RWY 3-21 BECAUSE WE WERE 'CLRD TO 11L.'
