Narrative:
Gear down maintenance ferry sea-lax clrd for des profile to lax. Captain flying, first officer reading plates. Just past fillmore VOR lax center asked altitude. First officer responded 6200'. Lax center said maintain 7000'. We immediately climbed to 7000'. Lax center asked me to call them. I did and they said a pilot deviation package would be sent to FSDO. There was no conflict with other traffic or any terrain. MEA 5000'. Profile chart is very misleading and first officer must have misread runway 25/24 profile des chart. According to chart (10-2F profile des 24/25), fillmore VOR has crossing restrictions at or below 21000', at or above 15000'. Then, 5000', except bayst intersection must be crossed at 10000'. (See enclosed chart.) supplemental information from acn 81140: none of the flight crew members had any experience with profile descents. We became confused on reading segment altitudes, reading the MEA as the required altitude.

Title: FLT CREW FAILED TO COMPLY WITH ALT RESTRICTION DEPICTED ON THE PROFILE DESCENT.
Narrative: GEAR DOWN MAINT FERRY SEA-LAX CLRD FOR DES PROFILE TO LAX. CAPT FLYING, F/O READING PLATES. JUST PAST FILLMORE VOR LAX CENTER ASKED ALT. F/O RESPONDED 6200'. LAX CENTER SAID MAINTAIN 7000'. WE IMMEDIATELY CLBED TO 7000'. LAX CENTER ASKED ME TO CALL THEM. I DID AND THEY SAID A PLT DEV PACKAGE WOULD BE SENT TO FSDO. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC OR ANY TERRAIN. MEA 5000'. PROFILE CHART IS VERY MISLEADING AND F/O MUST HAVE MISREAD RWY 25/24 PROFILE DES CHART. ACCORDING TO CHART (10-2F PROFILE DES 24/25), FILLMORE VOR HAS XING RESTRICTIONS AT OR BELOW 21000', AT OR ABOVE 15000'. THEN, 5000', EXCEPT BAYST INTXN MUST BE CROSSED AT 10000'. (SEE ENCLOSED CHART.) SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 81140: NONE OF THE FLT CREW MEMBERS HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH PROFILE DESCENTS. WE BECAME CONFUSED ON READING SEGMENT ALTS, READING THE MEA AS THE REQUIRED ALT.
